Breaking the Cycle of Distrust in the Media
In an era dominated by social media, generative AI, and polarized cable news, trust in the media has never been more strained or more important. This session invites you to take a closer look at the forces shaping our information landscape and the critical role that trusted journalism plays in a healthy democracy. Through an engaging exploration of what defines media today, distinguishing platforms from sources, influencers from journalists and real news from AI-generated content, attendees will gain insight into how misinformation and disinformation spread and how to recognize them.
The presentation also addresses why media skepticism has grown, how it impacts public perception, and how professional newsrooms like The Dallas Morning News are working to earn back public trust through transparency, accountability, and open dialogue with their communities. Participants will leave with practical tools to critically evaluate news sources, understand media standards, and become more informed, discerning media consumers.
