Beta Gamma Sigma Welcomes New Board of Governors Members 

Charles Whiteman, Ph.D., of The Pennsylvania State University recently assumed the role of Chairman for the BGS Board of Governors. Whiteman is the John and Becky Surma Dean of the Penn State Smeal College of Business. Former Board Chair Betty Jo Licata, Ph.D., Dean of the Williamson College of Business at Youngstown State University, will now serve as Immediate Past Chairman. 

Also joining the board are Jacob Chacko, Ph.D. (Abu Dhabi University), Jorge Haddock, Ph.D. (University of Massachusetts Boston), Barbara A. Ritter, Ph.D. (Coastal Carolina University), Lawrence G. Singleton, Ph.D. (Marist College) and Jeffri L., Epps (Foureyes LLC).

Forbes Nonprofit Council, an invitation-only organization for chief executives in successful nonprofit organizations, has named as a new member Christina Carosella, CEO of Beta Gamma Sigma.

Beta Gamma Sigma presents 2016 Business Achievement, Medallion for Entrepreneurship awards to seven recipients

Each year, Beta Gamma Sigma presents outstanding business leaders with two prestigious awards: the Business Achievement Award and the Medallion of Entrepreneurship. This year, four candidates took home a Medallion, and three claimed the Business Achievement Award. 

The Medallion for Entrepreneurship is awarded to noteworthy business people who combine innovative business achievement with service to humanity. The Medallion was established to recognize those individuals and firms who contribute significantly to the vitality and strength of the economy, as well as society.

The Business Achievement Award honors people for significant success in business through the traditional corporate route. This success may be demonstrated over a career or by a singular achievement that has advanced the field of business and contributed to a community and to humankind.

Beta Gamma Sigma awards Dr. Stephen K. Klasko the 2016 International Honoree Award 

From 1963 to 1999, Beta Gamma Sigma presented the National Honoree Award to individuals who furthered the ideals of the society through outstanding business and managerial leadership. Since 2000, the society has presented an International Honoree Award. This year, the BGS Board of Governors is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Stephen Klasko, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, as the 2016 International Honoree.

Dennis Barsema wins Beta Gamma Sigma's 2015 Medallion for Entrepreneurship 

International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma is pleased to announce that Dennis Barsema – management instructor at Northern Illinois University and chair of the NIU Foundation – is a 2015 recipient of the prestigious Medallion for Entrepreneurship Award.

The Northern Illinois University College of Business (NIU) nominated Barsema for demonstrating “significant entrepreneurial spirit and initiative, as well as humanitarian leadership, which have led to impactful accomplishments, benefiting a large and diverse set of people across the globe.”

Beta Gamma Sigma is pleased to announce the hiring of Christina Carosella as its new Chief Executive Officer. 

Carosella assumes the role following the retirement of Jim Viehland, who served as the Society’s executive director for more than 35 years.

Two new members elected to BGS Board of Governors 

Beta Gamma Sigma is proud to announce the recent election of two new members to its Board of Governors: Eli Jones and Marielle Heijltjes.

Elections for officer and board-member positions took place earlier this year. Jones will serve a three-year term; Heijltjes will serve for two years.

Jones has been a BGS member since 1997. He became dean at Walton College in 2012, where he also holds the Sam M. Walton Leadership Chair in Business.

The Entrepreneurship Medallion is awarded to outstanding individuals who combine innovative business achievement with service to humanity. Betty Jo Licata elected as Chair of Beta Gamma Sigma’s Board of Governors 

Betty Jo Licata, dean of the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University, was recently elected Chair of the Board of Governors for the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma.

Elections for officer and board-member positions took place at the society’s Biennial Meeting on April 7, 2014. Licata will serve a two-year term.
