Bernie Banks is a noted expert on the subjects of leadership and organizational change. As an associate dean, Bernie has been integrating leadership development initiatives across the school’s global portfolio of degree programs.

Before Northwestern, Bernie retired from the U.S. Army as a brigadier general after leading West Point’s Department of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership. In 1995, he was awarded the Army’s prestigious General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award.

Bernie is a West Point graduate himself; he holds master’s degrees from Northwestern, Columbia and Harvard Universities, and he earned a Ph.D. in social-organizational psychology from Columbia University.

Bernie’s work has been published in the Harvard Business Review, Military Psychology and The New York Times. He’s worked extensively with organizations like Morgan Stanley, Procter and Gamble, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft, IBM, 7-Eleven and Goldman Sachs.
