Global Leadership Summit: 2016 Recap

November 3-6, 2016  |   Dallas, TX

Second GLS Equips Students With Tools to Reshape Business

Nearly 400 collegiate BGS members gathered in Dallas last month for the annual Global Leadership Summit. There they met representatives of well-known corporations, dynamic speakers and panelists, and other BGS members from around the world. All participants had the same thing in mind: Reshaping Business.

While most corporate leaders know the business terrain is changing, few are in a position to direct that change as much as members of BGS. Giving them a chance to do so while they’re still in college is a rare opportunity.

Jessica Kim was among 11 students attending the GLS on a full-ride scholarship and over 125 students with partial scholarships. Kim, who is studying Senior Entrepreneurship at Loyola Marymount University, said this of the experience:

“Never have I been around such like-minded, driven, and smart individuals. I never would have been able to attend without the support of all the sponsors and the BGS staff. I have made connections that will last a lifetime and have gained new skills and insights that I’m itching to apply to my everyday and business life.”

Kim and her GLS colleagues won their division in the case competition, where teams were given five hours to develop a creative and viable solution to a real-world business scenario that would be presented the final day of the Summit. The experience was in many ways a microcosm of the working world, complete with deadlines.

Each day of the summit was carefully crafted to provide students with a tool-kit for the case competition. Speaker driven sessions incorporated and cultivated the knowledge gained in presentations prior while setting the stage for information to come in the following days. Topics included:

• Talent Recruitment
• Values-driven leadership
• Business strategy
• Ethical leadership
• Strengths-based business

90% of this year’s attendees said they would recommend the GLS to their fellow students.  Many have already shared their findings on their own college campuses.

The Global Leadership Summit gives deans and chapter advisors a positive way to support top students each year. Please watch this page for details of next year’s GLS beginning in May of 2017.
