Learn more about Beta Gamma Sigma's Meet the Leaders of Business series

Blog Post: Nov. 26, 2014

Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes the importance of letting the "Best in Business" learn from the best of business. Consequently, the Society launched this special speaker series program – Meet the Leaders of Business – featuring prominent business professionals speaking on a variety of relevant topics.

While members living in cities and regions where presentations occur are certainly welcome to join the fun, we didn’t want to exclude the rest of the Society’s membership.

And this fall, that’s what we strived to achieve. Two of our MTLOB speakers, Beatriz Manetta and Patricia Powell, shared their trials, triumphs and trade secrets for both a live audience and a live podcast.

In Case You Missed It...

Beta Gamma Sigma shares many interesting and useful articles and resources to its membership via social media. Here are some of the most popular links from August 2014.

Why BGS? The values of Beta Gamma Sigma

The staff at the Beta Gamma Sigma Central Office is asked a lot of questions. Some are specific to a particular program or benefit. Others are much broader, and address the very nature and purpose of our Society. But one question in particular is probably the most poignant.

It’s a question that has been asked by students, alumni, collegiate chapter officers and even the occasional business school dean. It’s a question that we, just as any responsible organization should, have even asked ourselves more than a few times.

One BGS member reflects fondly on the day she was inducted into the honor society -- with someone special in tow.

Two BGS members enjoy startup growth, success

'Wishlist’ offers gifts of a lifetime

In 2012, two Beta Gamma Sigma grads wanted to find a way to reward people; not with things, but experiences. Gift cards seemed too impersonal; money even more so. What about the gift of a treasured memory?

BGS member co-produces award-winning short film

Brian Patrick says sometimes, opportunities arise when you take a seat next to a stranger. He did, and now he’s touring film festivals across the country to promote a film he co-produced.

Submitted: Chris Gonsuron, on his induction

A BGS member explains the day he was inducted: "I was not expecting to be inducted, so when the dean came to the classroom and announced to the class I was invited to be in Beta Gamma Sigma, I was wearing PJ pants, a T-shirt, slippers, a ball cap, and a three-day beard. I had been awake for roughly 38 hours studying for an exam ..."

BGS member helps launch cardboard avatar creator, Foldable.Me

Imagine a miniature you, standing a mighty four inches tall, enjoying its perch on your office desk. One company did, and explored bringing it to life.

In 2012, that company raised thousands of dollars in startup capital through a crowd-funding campaign, and shortly thereafter, Foldable.Me was born.

Building the Second Century of Beta Gamma Sigma

What can Beta Gamma Sigma be in its second century? What should it be? What does the Society do well? What could it do better?

These are some tough, but very important, questions. Answering them presented quite the challenge to the BGS Board of Governors and Central Office staff. After much thought and deliberation, the answers became clear: it’s time for change.
