Beta Gamma Sigma Names Sharon L. Allen International
Honoree
Beta
Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, recently
named Sharon L. Allen, chairman of the board of directors, Deloitte
LLP, its 2009 International Honoree. The honor is presented annually
to individuals who further the ideals of the Society through outstanding
business and managerial leadership.
“We are pleased to recognize Ms. Allen as this year’s
International Honoree,” said George E. Stevens, president
of Beta Gamma Sigma. “Throughout her career she has demonstrated
exceptional leadership and has made a significant contribution to
business worldwide.”
As a recipient of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honoree Award,
Allen joins a distinguished list of business leaders. Past recipients
include Chung Po-Yang, co-founder and chairman emeritus, DHL International
Unlimited (2008); Kevin Kennedy, president and CEO, JDSU Corporation
(2007); and Patricia Turck-Paquelier, the international brand president,
L’Oreal (2006).
As chairman, Allen is responsible for the governance of Deloitte
and oversees its relationships with a number of multinational clients.
She is also a member of the Global Board of Directors of Deloitte
Touche Tohmatsu, where she serves as the U.S. representative on
the Global Governance Committee and chairs the Global Risk Management
Committee.
Allen has been acknowledged throughout her 35 years in the audit
and consulting industries for her contributions to business and
the community. She has appeared on Forbes’ list of “the
100 most powerful women in the world” for the past three years
and has been named one of the “50 Women to Watch” by
The Wall Street Journal.
She frequently speaks on significant business topics regarding governance,
diversity, ethics and workplace issues. Allen has addressed such
prestigious forums as Fortune Boardroom Reports, Forbes Executive
Women’s Forum and the United Nations Economic Development
Fund, and delivered speeches at the nation’s top business
schools, including those at Brigham Young University, Cornell University,
MIT, University of Notre Dame and University of Illinois.
The Beta Gamma Sigma International Honoree Award was first established
as the National Honoree Award in 1963, but was renamed in 1999 to
more closely reflect the global nature of business.
