Dr. Susan Borkowski
Receives Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award
Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, recently
named Dr. Susan Borkowski, professor of accounting at La Salle University,
its 2009 Outstanding Chapter Advisor.
“We are pleased to present Dr. Borkowski with this honor,”
said George E. Stevens, president of Beta Gamma Sigma. “Throughout
her 13 years as chapter advisor she has exemplified the Mission
of the Society and encouraged others to do the same.”
As the first and only chapter advisor to serve the Beta Gamma Sigma
La Salle University chapter, Borkowski has worked diligently to
advance the value of membership for students, faculty and alumni
and has continuously motivated members to achieve their personal
bests. These efforts have resulted in various chapter honors, including
a 2009 Outstanding Chapter Honorable Mention. This year’s
recognition also marks the seventh time since 2001 La Salle University’s
Beta Gamma Sigma chapter has received an Outstanding Chapter honor,
which recognizes chapters that demonstrate excellence in chapter
performance.
Under Borkowski’s guidance and leadership, the chapter has
driven several initiatives and activities that have heightened member
engagement and increased the Society’s visibility on campus.
Every year, the chapter invites recently inducted undergraduates
to serve as mentors to freshmen enrolled in an introductory business
course. The curriculum requires student teams to create and present
a business plan to a panel of executives and recently inducted MBA
students. Other activities include staffing an informational table
for Beta Gamma Sigma Founders’ Week and co-sponsoring a business
ethics lecture.
Borkowski’s efforts have proved successful in raising awareness
about the Society. The chapter has consistently reported overall
acceptance rates in excess of 85 percent, qualifying the school
for the Society’s matching scholarship program.
Borkowski joined La Salle University in 1989. She regularly teaches
undergraduate and graduate level courses in managerial and cost
accounting, and accounting information systems. In addition to her
role as Beta Gamma Sigma collegiate chapter advisor, Borkowski is
also the SAP Curriculum Coordinator and Faculty Liaison for the
University.
